There are some legal tips that you should be aware of in order to become a property owner in Costa Rica. According to our Migration Board there is an article in the migration law about the temporary residents that includes investors as temporary residents up to two years, and then you can renew it for another period and so on.
Formally is the Law Number 8487, article 75 that says:

Second Chapter
Temporary residents
Article 75.-

The General Board of Migration will allow the permanency for a defined time that will be up to two years to whom meet the following categories:

a) A person married to a Costa Rican citizen.
b) Religion officers recognized by Costa Rica law
c) Managers, executives, technicians and workers of foreign companies.
d) Investors
e) Retired
f) Scientists
g) Sport professionals hired by Costa Rica teams
h) Press agents
